OSHIIP SERVICES

OSHIIP, the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, is sponsored and coordinated by the Ohio Department of Insurance.  OSHIIP provides free information and other health insurance services to people covered by Medicare.  Medicare can seem very complicated, especially to people who are new to the program.  Marion County now has several trained and certified volunteers that are available to meet with seniors and/or their caregivers, either in person or over the phone.  Contact the Marion County Council on Aging at 740-387-0401 to learn more about OSHIIP services and volunteer locations.

SENIOR SERVICES

IN-HOME COUNSELING FOR SENIORS

According to the American Psychological Association, approximately 20 % of all older adults suffer from depressive symptom.  While it is not a normal part of growing older, depression can lead to impairments in physical, mental, and social functioning, and is often undiagnosed and therefore untreated.   Older adults often have feelings of anxiety, grief, loss, and other health related issues, and may not know where to turn to for help.  A new service entitled Senior Transition,   sponsored by the Marion County Council on Aging, may help.  Ronnie Henson, Licensed Independent Social Worker and clinical therapist, is available to come to the home and provide one-on-one counseling on a limited basis.  She can assist seniors with finding a balance in life, as well as make referrals to other community resources.  Senior Transitions is funded in part by the Union County Foundation.  Contact the Marion County Council on Aging at 740-387-0401 for further details.
