Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging

We, the Marion County Council on Aging, are confused with the Area Agency on Aging routinely. We are separate agencies. The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is a private non-profit agency designated by the State of Ohio to administer State and Federal funds, as well as other grant funds. Located in Ontario, the AAA covers nine counties in north central Ohio, including Marion County. Below is a summary of their programs. The AAA can be contacted by calling 1-800-860-5799 or 419-524-4144.

Essentials for Independence

When funding is available, this program assists eligible individuals who are 60 and over with basic living items not covered by any other community programs. Essential items include, but are not limited to:

  • Lift chairs
  • Mattress
  • Stoves
  • Car Repairs
  • Refrigerator
  • Vacuums
  • Washer

PASSPORT covers personal care, homemaker, respite, home-delivered meals, chore, medical transportation, adult day care, home modification, durable medical equipment, and more. Case managers are used to coordinate services.

Long Term Care Ombudsman

The Long Term Care Ombudsman provides a voice for consumers of long-term care services in nursing homes, county homes, residential care facilities, adult care facilities, adult foster homes and in private residences, regardless of age. Anyone may call or write the Ombudsman to talk about a concern they may have about the care the senior received by the agency or facility.
